Underfloor heating’s increasing popularity is a reflection of the need to conserve energy resources and a realisation that underfloor heating provides huge benefits in terms of the flexibility of spaces and its utilisation.
The way underfloor heating works is to turn the whole floor into a heat emitter. This heat emitter is able to work at much lower temperatures than traditional radiator systems because the area of the emitter is much greater. The water in an underfloor heating system is typically in the range of 40-50oC while it may be as high as 85oC in a traditional radiator system. This is one of the reasons that underfloor heating is much cheaper to run than traditional systems.
Underfloor heating can be used in almost any location, although to achieve the maximum benefit from its use in economic terms, we would suggest that ‘new build’ work or major refurbishments provides its most appropriate outlet.
